What is Moonstone? Moonstone, or Adularia, is a member of the Feldspar family of Potassium Aluminum Silicates which are very common and abundant minerals. It has a pale peach to medium gray to white color and soft, silvery sheen and lusterous shifts of light which gives it it's name. The most sought after Moonstone is the nearly translucent white with delicate blue shifts of lusterous sheen known as Rainbow Moonstone. Composed of layers of different Feldspars which have separated into alternating crystal plates as the mineral cools, the lusterous shifts are produced when light is refracted between the layers. This is called adularescence.
